NO GAMES. JUST LSU FOOTBALL

This project takes a collection of articles on LSU football from the latter half of 2012 and combines them with online design principles to form a colorful and engaging experience. BLUE COLLAR

THE DAILY REVEILLE

THE DAILY REVEILLE

Before his season-ending knee injury, Alfred Blue had emerged from the pack of stellar tiger backs to earn the starting spot. He had rushed for 224 yards combined in the first two wins of the season before a season-ending knee injury in Week 3. He would return for his senior season and rush for 343 yards, but by then phenom Jeremy Hill had solidified his distinction as an all-time talent in the backfield. Blue was drafted in the sixth draft of the NFL draft and surprised many with his play, rushing for 528 yards as the complimentary back to starter Arian Foster. The highlight of his rookie season came on November 16 when he rushed for 156 yards on 36 carries against the Cleveland Browns. More recently in 2017, he pounded the Steelers on Christmas day for 108 yards on just 16 carries, working with the first team throughout. Given Blue's past and seemingly undeterred work ethic, it is easy to root for him, and not just because he handled a backup role and an bad-luck injury so well at LSU.

August 31, 2012

After the 2011 SEC championship season and national championship game appearance, it was easy to see why the Tigers would depend on the same potent rushing attack, given the fact that all five top backs were returning. What observers did not expect, however, is for leading rushers Michael Ford (756) and Spencer Ware (727), along with up-and-coming freshman phenom Kenny Hilliard to take a back seat to perhaps the least heralded of them all. A quiet and humble presence on the team, this back was on his way to a breakout season before suffering a knee injury. Read the 2012 LSU offense preview here, an outlook that puts little expectation on this new starter and even less on a sixth back in LSU's stable that would emerge as the best of them all, in both college and in the NFL.
